In a press release, the telecommunications company said the program reimburses employees $2.00 per gallon for the miles they drive during their daily commute. Miles driven to and from work will be computed and the prorated amount will be included in every paycheck. The $2.00 is roughly the difference between gas prices of 2006 and 2008 in the state.

The program went into effect June 1.

"Our employees have come through for us and in these challenging financial times, we needed to come through for them," says STS Telecom's CEO Mark Amarant.

The company has also launched a program in which the company contributes toward the down payment of any lease or purchase of a new model hybrid car.
