Poll: Marked Increase in Number of Employees Voicing Financial Woes
A large majority of HR professionals report that they have noticed an increase in the number of employees expressing concern over their finances, according to a recent Compensation.BLR.com poll.

When asked "In 2008, have more employees been expressing concern over their finances?," more than half (52 percent) responded "Yes, there's been a sharp increase" and an additional 30 percent responded "Yes, there's been a slight increase." Just 18 percent responded "No, I haven't noticed an increase."

A recent survey by Workplace Options (WPO) found that nearly three out of four U.S. workers are stressed due to financial concerns and that nearly half (45 percent) reported that their financial stress impedes their productivity at work. The survey also indicated that many workers would like to have financial counseling available through their employers.

WPO noted that workers who are stressed over finances have a harder time doing their jobs properly and more apt to experience burn-out and reduced morale.

The Compensation.BLR.com poll included 223 respondents.
