Results from a new survey by the American Payroll Association (APA) reveal that 80 percent of employers offer pre-tax benefit programs such as flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and travel reimbursement incentive programs in order to help employees offset the rising costs of transportation and medical care.
According to the APA, programs such as dependent care FSAs, medical FSAs, and travel reimbursement incentive programs can help employees save up to 35 percent on commuting, health care and dependent care expenses. Approximately 80 percent of the over 47,000 respondents to the "Getting Paid In America" online survey indicated that their companies offered such tax-advantaged payroll deduction programs to their employees.
"Flexible Spending Accounts and other pre-tax, voluntary payroll deductions can mean big savings for employees each payday," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association. "As the cost of living in America steadily rises, these programs are a great way to ease the burden of necessary expenses."
