Median pay packages for chief executives rose by 16 percent in 2005, down from a 30-percent increase in 2004, according a survey of 1,703 public companies by The Corporate Library.

The survey found that Barry Diller, chief executive officer of IAC/Interactive, was the highest paid CEO in 2005. Diller's total compensation package (including stock options) was more than $295 million in 2005.
The analysis found that compensation continues to rise for most CEOs.
"While increases have fallen from the exceptionally high rates found in last year's survey, the rate of growth is still very substantial, and well ahead of the rate of increase for any other group of employees," says Paul Hodgson, senior research associate at The Corporate Library and the study's author.
