Comp and Benefits #1 Priority for Generation Y
A new survey of Generation Y workers reveals that their number-one concern for the future is their compensation and benefits.

The survey, commissioned by Robert Half International and Yahoo! HotJobs examined the professional priorities of 1,000 of the most senior members of Generation Y (also known as "Millennials") (aged 21-28). When asked "What is your number-one career concern for the future?,", 33 percent responded "Salary and healthcare/retirement benefits," while 26 percent responded "Job stability" and 23 percent responded "Career satisfaction."

"The Gen Y professionals we surveyed were focused on practical concerns, such as saving enough money for retirement and being able to balance work and family obligations," Reesa Staten, senior vice president and director of workplace research for Robert Half International, said in a press release. "These basic quality-of-life needs are common among all demographics in the workplace."

"Gen Y workers want the best healthcare and retirement benefits employers can provide as well as defined career paths," Staten explained. "To recruit these professionals, firms should make these programs easy to understand, promote them in detail on the company website and highlight them during the interview process."

Survey findings are available in a report, What Millennial Workers Want: How to Attract and Retain Gen Y Employees.
