Personal Income Rises

The personal income of Americans increased 0.7 percent to $69.1 billion last month, the biggest rise in personal income this year, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

In April, disposable personal income increased $45.7 billion, or 0.5 percent. After adjustment for price changes, disposable personal income increased 0.1 percent in April, in contrast to a decrease of less than 0.1 percent in March.

Private wage and salary disbursements increased $39.3 billion in April, compared with an increase of $16.5 billion in March.

Goods-producing industries' payrolls increased $6.9 billion, compared with an increase of $1.8 billion in March. Manufacturing payrolls increased $3.6 billion, in contrast to a decrease of $1.1 billion in March.

Services-producing industries' payrolls increased $32.4 billion, compared with an increase of $14.7 billion in March. Government wage and salary disbursements increased $2.2 billion, compared with an increase of $1.7 billion.
