Agencies Launch Program for Asian-American Workers

The U.S. Department of Labor and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will join forces with various community and local governmental organizations to launch The Information Group for Asian-American Rights (TIGAAR). The launching ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2003, in Houston.

The partnership will focus on providing compliance assistance to Asian-American employers and educating Asian-American employees on their rights in the workplace. At the event an accord will be signed by Charter Members. In addition, a video on workplace issues and a billboard providing the TIGAAR website address to obtain additional information will be unveiled.

TIGAAR steering committee members include the Labor Department's Wage and Hour Division and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the City of Houston Office of Council Member Gordon Quan and numerous Asian advocacy groups, including the Organization for Chinese Americans, Alliance for Multicultural Community Services, VN TeamWork, Lao American Association, Japanese American Citizens League, and Houston 80/20.
