In the lawsuit, which seeks class-action status, eight drivers claim the company
treats them as employees by telling them what packages to deliver and when to
deliver them, arguing the company controls the work that is performed. They
said the company also controls the specifications of the trucks the drivers
use.
The company disputes the allegations.
"We firmly believe they are independent business owners," says Perry
Colosimo, a spokesperson for FedEx Ground.
The news service notes that delivery drivers in California, Massachusetts,
Minnesota, and South Dakota have filed similar lawsuits.
