Delivery Drivers Sue FedEx

Delivery drivers for FedEx in Memphis have filed a federal lawsuit accusing the company of improperly classifying them as independent contractors, the Associated Press reports.

In the lawsuit, which seeks class-action status, eight drivers claim the company treats them as employees by telling them what packages to deliver and when to deliver them, arguing the company controls the work that is performed. They said the company also controls the specifications of the trucks the drivers use.

The company disputes the allegations.

"We firmly believe they are independent business owners," says Perry Colosimo, a spokesperson for FedEx Ground.

The news service notes that delivery drivers in California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and South Dakota have filed similar lawsuits.
