This week, a Florida circuit judge ordered the state to increase the minimum wage, finding that the state violated the Florida Constitution in September 2010 by reducing the rate because of deflation. The state could file an appeal.

The Florida Constitution requires employers to pay a minimum wage that is subject to an annual adjustment for inflation. Each year, on September 30, the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation adjusts the minimum wage rate for the upcoming year.

The minimum wage applies to all employees in the state who are covered by the federal minimum wage.
