consumer products giant said that it will be laying off 10% of its workforce as part of a restructuring plan. During the next five years the company will be closing 100 of its production plants in Europe & the Americas. This anouncement follows year-end 1999 earnings that revealed a 5% drop in net profit.

Unilever produces such brands as Calvin Klein Fragrances, Dove Soap, Lipton Tea, Breyers ice cream, & Close-up Toothpaste.
