Employers Report the 10 Jobs Most Difficult to Fill

Forty-four percent of employers in the United States are having difficulty filling positions because of a lack of qualified talent, according to a survey by Manpower, Inc.

The survey included responses from 1275 employers in the United States. The survey found that the top 10 jobs that employers are having difficulty filling are:

  1. Sales Representatives
  2. Engineers
  3. Nurses
  4. Technicians (primarily production/operations, engineering or maintenance)
  5. Accountants
  6. Administrative Assistants & PAs
  7. Drivers
  8. Call Center Operators
  9. Machinists
  10. Management/Executives

Manpower found that 40 percent of employers worldwide are having difficulty filling positions.

Employers in Mexico (78 percent reporting shortages), Canada (66 percent), and Japan (58 percent) are having the most difficulty finding the right people to fill jobs.

In India , just 13 percent of employers reported having difficulty filling positions.

"The talent shortage is becoming a reality for a larger number of employers around the world, and this is only going to get worse over the next several decades, as demographic shifts and other factors continue to reduce the number of people who are willing and able to participate in the workforce," says Jeffrey A. Joerres, chairman & CEO of Manpower. "The shortages are most acute across North America at this point, with employers in Europe and Asia currently feeling much less pressure to compete for employees."
