Do you think that the compensation your company offers isn't its strong suit? You may be far from alone. When it comes to recruiting, most HR professionals believe that their company's culture is its greatest asset--and very few believe that pay is what sets them apart--according to a recent Compensation.BLR.com poll.
When asked "In your company's efforts to entice top talent, what's your top competitive advantage?," 40 percent cited "A great company culture," while 20 percent responded "Great benefits" and just 9 percent responded "Great pay." Meanwhile, nearly a third (31 percent) of respondents indicated their company lacked a competitive advantage, answering "What competitive advantage?"
In January, a national poll conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates for the Center for State and Local Government Excellence asked 1,200 adults about which benefits and characteristics they considered most important when choosing a job.
Respondents ranked "The health insurance plan" as the most important job benefit, "Being in an environment with clear policies and procedures" was ranked second and "A flexible family-friendly workplace" was ranked fifth. Surprisingly, "How much one is paid, the total compensation" was ranked 10th on the list.
The Compensation.BLR.com poll included 176 respondents.
